David Marshall - Comic Book Art | Reach: A 24-Hour Comic)
Hub Comics
Hosted from Noon-to-Noon on the weekend of October 23rd 2010
Substance
Unlike last year, I was actually able to focus. Following the "spirit of the law", I walked in with no planning whatsoever.
Form
Like "School Fight!" and Lucky Seven", this story is rendered with traditional media tools. The Ames 3.5 lettering looks large on a 9" x 12" page, but I really wanted to test my new C6 nibs.
- 7.5" x 10.75" live area on 9" x 12" sketch paper
- Speedball Super Black India Ink
- Short-handle round #4 sable brush
- Ruling pen (borders)
- Speedball nib #512 (straight lines, details)
- Speedball C6 and B5 (lettering)
- Ames Lettering Guide (setting 3.5 default)

Connections
An international challenge: independently create a 24-page comic book in 24 continuous hours. No preparation (sketches, designs, plot summaries, etc.) can precede the 24 hour period.

A truly neighborhod comics shop, located in Union Square. Friendly help, late hours, supports local and independent work, lots of stuff but not cramped and great with kids. What's not to love?
