Marshall Art Studio: Comic Book Art (Six-Year-Old Horse Thief)

DVD Extras

Form

  • In 5 years, my human figure drawing had deminished. I'd been experimenting with drawing on the computer (Wacom drawing tablet) for a year at that point, so it seemed logical to bring that method to comics. The newfound digital tool meant I could be more accurate with the drawings. Using photos as reference was never easier. However, making the art truly mine took a lot of time.

Substance

  • My first story in over 5 years. I lost interest in action-genre material, and wanted to tell more personal stories. I picked an old one from my family. The challenge was to convey the tale's charm and historical accuracy.

Six-Year-Old Horse Thief

(G; Childhood Memory) Story and art by David Marshall. A personal story, from a time when there were no cellphones, no VCRs and only one Starbucks. In addition to being my first attempt at drawing children and horses in action, this eight-page story is also my first historical piece. Unpublished.
